Third Side of the Coin

1960 NR 1h 7

A documentary about the then only twelve year old country of Israel, caught amidst the tensions of the Middle East and the ongoing Cold War.

1960. 12 years after the declaration of independence, Chris Marker travels to Israel to shoot his 4th film. Not without humor and poetry, he interprets the disparate "signs" of then and now: the conquered desert, the dark adventure of the Exodus, the Orthodox Jews of the Ghetto, the Wailing Wall, the kibbutz, the Sabbath, the childhood of Israel and its children - already regimented but carefree and nourished by hope.
