The Rehearsal

1974 NR 1h 32m 6.8

A recreation of how the Greek military junta that started in 1967 tragically affected university students.

The Rehearsal, Jules Dassin's cinematographic indictment of the Greek military junta of 1967-1974, was filmed secretly on a shoestring budget in just four weeks at a New York City studio. The Rehearsal documents the efforts of the Greek students and Philhellenes of the time, featuring dramatised re-enactments of the events that occurred in November 1973 during the Athens Polytechnic uprising culminating in the bloodshed of 17 November. The docudrama incorporates prose, poetry, and songs from Giorgos Seferis, Giannis Ritsos, and other famous artists into the narrative, including the written thoughts of imprisoned citizens.
