The Gallant Legion

1948 NR 1h 28m 6.8

When power-hungry Faulkner and Laroux want to divide Texas into smaller sections, instead of allowing it to enter the Union as a single state, Gary Conway and the Texas Rangers must step in to thwart their chicanery.

During the period after the Republic of Texas had been granted statehood, lawless forces sough to divide the state. During a six-month trial period for the newly-created Texas Rangers as a law-enforcement agency, every effort is made to discredit them. State senator Clarke Faulkner (Joseph Schildkraut) and power-hungry Beau Laroux (Brude Cabot) wage a campaign of terror to convince west Texans that they should secede from Texas because the Rangers are not strong enough to protect them. Cattleman Gary Conway resists the efforts of his Ranger friend Tom Banner (James Brown) to join the Texas Rangers. But when Conway's kid brother Chuck (Hal Landon) is killed by the renegades, he joins the Rangers seeking revenge.
