A Polish officer posing as a gypsy loves a gypsy girl who is really the count's daughter.

Arline, the young daughter of Count Arnheim, an Austrian, is saved by Thaddeus, a Polish soldier, who joins a gypsy band. Arline is stolen by one of the band, but protected always by Thaddeus, who falls in love with her when she is grown. When the band returns to Bohemia years later, Arline, still ignorant that Arnheim is her father, is brought before him for theft. How she learns Arnheim is her parent and is eventually happy with Thaddeus, makes up the climax.
