Johnny has joined the army because he likes canoeing, but ends up in a war-torn city and is compromised into helping the enemy. However, desertion will not be a solution, and he finds himself more distressed than ever. Henry, an officer, sympathizes with him and tries to help, but he has issues of his own. Somehow the thought of a "Paradise" away from the military seems an unreachable ideal that would solve the problems of both soldiers.
