On Again-Off Again

1937NR1h 8m5.9

This wacky vaudeville-style romp casts the irreverent comedy team as feuding co-owners of a drug company.

William Hobbs (Bert Wheeler) and Claude Horton (Robert Woolsey) are partners in a prosperous pill-manufacturing company but never agree on which one is responsible for the world-wide success of their product. George Dilwig (Russell Hicks) , their legal adviser, is slightly unhinged. The discord is augmented by the rivalries of Hobbs' wife Nettie (Esther Muir) and Horton's fiancee Florence Cole (Marjorie Lord). The action takes place in a large eastern-US city in two settings: the pill company's palatial offices with modernistic stenographers; and Horton's costly home. There are two songs: "One Happy Family" sung by Hobbs and Horton and a chorus of company employees, and "Thanks to You" sung by Hobbs. Horton, Hobbs, Nettie, and Florence put on a sparkling tap-dance routine in the "One Happy Family" sequence.
