After only knowing each other for a couple of weeks, Theo and Alma's new friendship leads them on a road trip throughout California where their experiences create a deep yet unclear connection. As Theo navigates through a newfound love, he mistakenly pushes Alma's boundaries creating a wound in their relationship. After a failed attempt to fix things, Alma has to return home to France, leaving Theo alone with his regrets. As time passes Theo is still left with unsettled emotions, but is convinced by a friend to go out and start meeting new people. However, his hope is quickly burned out when he finds a new connection who yet again is not looking for a serious commitment. Eventually, Theo falls into a new relationship that forces him to experience ideals of love differently from his own, leading him to a self-discovery that sometimes it takes letting go to understand if the love between two people is real.
