Bill Moyers walks through the corridors and rooms of New York's Creedmoor Psychiatric Center, talking to patients and staff. He follows one patient to Central Manor in Far Rockaway, also in Queens, where, with considerable medication, she attempts to establish a new style of living. Even to the untrained eye, in most cases there can be little doubt that these patients or "clients" are different. However, the underlying message of this program is that they are not so different that they must be hidden from society. With help, many are able to cope.
