The Tim Conway Show

2 Seasons 1980 - 1981 NR 1h 00m 7.5

Tim Conway hosted a variety show so closely modeled on the successful Carol Burnett Show, even using some of the same sketches. Interpersed were dance routines where all the performers were youngsters and musical numbers.

Tim Conway's second attempt at a variety show is a bit more polished than his first. The focus is primarily on sketches interspersed with black-outs often spoofing commercials familiar in 1980. Some reoccurring routines through out season one include having three members of the audience come on stage and perform a sketch with Tim using cue cards. The humor comes from the misreading of lines or reading the wrong lines. A continuing story line sketch has convict Tim coaching his not-so-smart wife into helping him to escape. The regular Don Crichton Dancers are Junior High aged kids who dance in costume pretending to be adults, they aren't very good and bordering on creepy as under-aged kids try to be sexy. The guest stars in season one are singers who usually only sing one song in the first five minutes, Tim interrupts them at first before letting them continue. Season two cuts the show down to 30 minutes and pretty much limits the guest stars to Carol Burnett and Harvey Korman, hoping to re-capture the magic Tim had on Carol's show.
