1809, the Peninsula War. Sergeant Richard Sharpe saves General Sir Arthur Wellesley's life and is commissioned a Lieutenant in the 95th Rifle Regiment. He is immediately given a mission behind enemy lines. For this he is given a squad of unruly troops who happen to be the best shots in the entire army. Due to how he came to be an officer, earning their respect will be difficult.
