Passport to Destiny

1944 NR 1h 5m 6.2

A British cleaning woman believes a glass eye has magical powers that will protect her from harm. She travels from London to Berlin and manages to obtain a job as a cleaning woman at Hitler's headquarters. However, her assassination plan...

British military widow Ella Muggins is a simple-minded charwoman in London who is proud of the work that she does. In a combination of finding something among her husband Henry Albert's military mementos years after his death and narrowly surviving a Nazi air raid, she becomes to believe that that memento will shield her from any harm in what she further believes is her destiny: to go to Berlin to assassinate Adolf Hitler. With no real plan except to take her personal washing pail and scrub brush with her as she does with her work, she sets off for the continent, in the process getting involved in the lives of among others Captain Franz von Webber, a German officer who is really working for the resistance, and British Mr. Joyce, a traitor in working for the Nazis. Mrs. Muggins comes to land upon a scheme, going somewhat undercover as a German cleaning woman, to be able to get close to Hitler. Besides the obvious risk of breaking out of character, she doesn't realize there are other things with her that will expose her as being British and not German, and thus put her in peril.
