Meet the Stewarts

1942 NR 1h 13m 6.1

A young newlywed couple learns to make their new marriage work; trying to impress family, stay on budget, and remain as diplomatic towards each other as possible.

Candy Goodwin and Mike Stewart are a rich girl/poor boy couple in love. While Candy wants to marry Mike, he won't marry her in thinking that she wouldn't be able to live on his salary, he not wanting them to live off her family money. He does not want her to endure his life until he advances in his career and is more financially stable. Their situation changes as her father, Pierce Goodwin, mistakenly believes Mike is a gold-digger in wanting to marry Candy solely for her money, and as such and without knowing Mike's caveat of marriage to Candy vows to cut her off financially if they do get married, which is the impetus for Mike to ask her to marry him. The question then becomes if Candy is willing and able to live within the budget Mike has set on what they can afford, especially as Candy has no practical skills, either domestically or professionally, in having had a houseful of servants doing everything for her, and as she is used to the finer things in life that money can afford, her Goodwin family life all without having to think about money and what money actually means.
