Hopeville

2008 G 2h 02m

A story of three childhood friends from the remote town of "Hopeville", reunited years later for an event of praise, worship, laughter, hand clapping, and foot stomping.

The uplifting and soulful musical drama Hopeville lives up to its title; as co-directed by Earnest Davis, R. Scott Wilson and Chuck Brewer, it tells of three fast friends, all from the same small town, who cling to firm hopes for a better future. One young man longs to minister from behind the pulpit and preach God's word; the young woman in the clique aspires to use her God-given vocal gifts to change the world as a singer; and the other young man wants to buck the traditions of Baptist conservatism and dance in the church. In time, each accomplishes his or her goal, and they grow up into gospel superstars Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams and Donnie McClurkin, who perform a stirring and uplifting gospel concert onscreen, before an enthusiastic audience.
