Based on a true story, Ellen is a married woman (Katey Sagal) dying of cancer who becomes close friends with a a kind pediatric nurse named Clare (Annabeth Gish) who cares for daughter Emmy and is divorced with two daughters. After Ellen sees the bond her husband and newborn daughter share with Clare, Ellen chooses her as a new partner for her husband after she dies.
