Garbo

1992 NR 1h 40m 5.2

Nifty little melodrama about garbage collectors, or "garbos" in Australian slang.

'Garbo' is a tale of love, of the search for truth, of individual courage ....... and of municipal sanitation. The story follows the exploits of two very unlikely council garbage collectors - Neill, the taller one who lives with his very difficult mother Freda and Steve, who wears spectacles and lives alone. They enjoy their work and life in general ....... until one of them becomes seriously infatuated with a young woman, Jane, the daughter of a police detective. This somehow results in their losing a mother, a large sum of money, a very large garbage truck and the young woman. Through considerable misadventure and with the help of their driver, Wal, they somehow manage to restore all that they have lost and make the world - well their suburb anyway - a finer, more decent place in which to put the garbage cans out. There is treachery and intrigue, love and laughter, the ultimate duel between rear-loading refuse vehicles ....... and one kissing scene.
