A farmer goes to New York to become a singer, has success and marries his neighbor's girl-friend.

Marvin Howe (Eddie Quillan), a hired-hand on a dairy farm owned by Pop Turnbull (Samuel S. Hinds), devotes more time to playing his trombone than he spends on milking.. When Marvin and Pop's daughter, Juanita (Anne Rooney), announce their engagement, Tate Winters (Robert Mitchum), Marvin's rival, persuades Marvin to go to New York City on a "fool's errand'"; Mervin is instructed to get Pop a membership in the Dairymen's Association. where Pop has been refused many times because he raises goats not cattle. Marvin ends up playing with a music band and meets Dolly O'Brien (Mary Beth Hughes.) Complications quickly arise and Juanita returns Marvin's ring.
