After 30 years of teaching in London, Mark Thackeray retires and decides to relocate to Chicago and accepts a job teaching at an inner-city school. He finds several students whom he thinks have potential to succeed in life if they stay on right path. But his tenure is in jeopardy when he catches a student with a gun and confiscates the gun and turns it in. But when it's discovered that the gun was used in a crime and the police demand that he tell them who had the gun, he refuses. He is also looking for someone.
