Jenny (Anna Schafer) is a hospital PR manager assigned to write an article about child abuse after a young boy, Billy (Leo Marz) is airlifted to the hospital, after being beaten into a coma, presumably by his stepfather Thomas (Chase Williamson). To get a personal take on the story, Jenny is further assigned to be Billy's "auntie" as part of an in-hospital guardian program for children who don't have relatives in the area. Encouraged by her friend Sallie (Tamlyn Tomita) to lean into this opportunity, Jenny feels a maternal connection with Billy that grows the more time she spends with him. When Thomas sneaks into Billy's hospital room, Jenny questions him about how Billy ended up in the hospital. Thomas reveals that Billy's mother Rachel (Augie Duke) is unstable and beat him; when Billy wakes up he confirms his stepfather's story. Determined to seek justice, Jenny risks everything to protect Billy and prove that Rachel is an unfit mother. Inspired by true events.
