Most of the film takes place on the ramshackle old merchant-marine freighter, skippered by Capt. McCall (Ray Collins). The captain and his stalwart crew - the most stalwart of which are Mallory (Pat O'Brien),Sands (George Murphy),Babe (Jackie Cooper),Tarriba (Desi Arnaz),and Berringer (Max Baer) - keep busy by blowing German bombers and U-boats to smithereens.
