Kate Lord does event planning with her business partner, Dina. Kate is dating George, but their work schedules make it difficult to maintain a relationship. Kate's mother is the fashion magazine mogul Margaret Lord, and Kate has always lived in her shadow. Margaret hosts an annual gala for the magazine. After her planner retires before the next gala, she asks Kate to plan it instead. This would be Kate's biggest event. It would be a chance to prove herself and earn her business a story in Margaret's magazine, so she agrees to plan the gala. She then meets Mike, the photographer for the magazine story, and she is charmed by him immediately. The event planning, however, proves difficult. The gala is held at a botanical garden, but the garden has recently changed managers. The new manager, Danny Miller, wants the event to be changed to make it more environmentally friendly. This upsets Margaret, who would prefer things to stay the same. Trying to defend her mother's wishes, Kate argues with Danny. The two go back and forth before Kate sees that Danny's new vision would be good for the gala. As they work together, Kate and Danny get close, but she is also involved with George and Mike. Meanwhile, Margaret still doesn't want the gala to change, and if she disapproves of Kate's work, then Kate's blossoming career may be in jeopardy.
The Love Gala
When Kate is given the job of planning her mom's Garden Gala, the biggest celebration event of the year, she has to compromise with the new and contrarian manager of the Botanical Garden.
