In 1951, strange frequencies were detected at a British site. They were emanating from a rift in the world, the portal of a wormhole that some speculate may lead some 620 light years to Kepler 22B, the nearest earth-like planet. The British government have built a top-secret research facility was built at the site to keep the spot under observation. Albert, a staff scientist, warns his Chief Doug that the signals have wandered outside of their normal range as if a critical point has been reached. At the facility for the first time that day are Doug's son Trent and a young woman, Jenny, who have just been added to the Area 51 staff. They are being shown the facility when, suddenly, there are alarms at the portal. As two scientists peer into a swirling glow, a couple of large arms appear. It is followed by the rest of a giant baboon-like creature with huge teeth. This is soon followed by a hoard of hostile insect crawlers about the size of cattle. The few armed guards positioned at the mouth of the passage are totally inadequate to stop the onslaught. Doug grabs Trent and Jenny to head for a secure bunker at a close military base while more creatures of both kinds spill into the neighborhood. Doug is able to gain entry into the bunker by announcing his position at Area 51. Already there, imploring to be let in, are a man and two women from a nearby nightclub. The older woman suffered a wound from one of the creatures en route and is now infected with snaky parasites anxious for new hosts.
