With his partner, Taterbug Watson, Jim Brandon rides to the rescue of Molly Mason and her brother Buddy who are struggling to run a cattle ranch in the face of opposition by a crooked banker, Silas Weller, who desires the valuable property for himself and has hired henchmen to run off or kill the Mason cowhands. Things take a turn for the better for the Masons when Jim and Taterbug arrive. Jim doesn't wait for Weller's henchmen to invade the ranch; he rides into the enemy stronghold and stirs things up.

Jim and Buddy decide to follow their pal Tater-bug who left them for another job. No sooner do they arrive than Tater-bug gets shot in the back. Jim suspects Joe Weller but has no proof.
