In Scarborough, Maine, the real estate agent Summer Elswick is found murdered, stabbed several times and with semen inside, by her boyfriend Will Grady, who is also a realtor. Detective Tom Nichols, who is happily married to Judy Nichols, is in charge of the investigation with his partner Dan Cleary. Judy is the niece of Tom's chief, Captain Robert Allen, and they are always celebrating together with Chief Marty Graeber (Mike Pniewski), Wally (Domenick Lombardozzi), wives and girlfriends. Will tells Tom that he intended to marry Summer, but it was not possible since she was still married to Sam Gifford. After Summer's funeral, Will tells Tom that Eli Phillips, who has a grudge with his family, tried to force himself into his mother's house. He explains that his father bought the farm Eli's father for his real estate company, and the man committed suicide later, and Eli blames his family. Tom interviews Eli and he tells him that the killer is Will. When the DNA of the semen is released, it matches Sam and he is accused by the police, but a friend of Summer had told Tom that they eventually meet each other to have sex. Tom goes to Sam's house to arrest him, but there is a shootout and Tom kills Sam. Soon the police find 13 kg. of heroin inside Sam's house, and the case is closed. But Tom Nichols is reluctant to consider it solved, until the night that Eli Phillips visits him at home and delivers a flash drive to him.
