Eddie Jones (Courtney B. Vance) is an agent with the U.S. State Department's elite Eliminator Corps. He eliminates people the government doesn't want around. Eddie also needs to change his life.

Eddie Jones (Courtney B. Vance) is a eliminator working for the U.S. Government. He eliminates people the government has a problem with or does not like. He is "working" a lot and is saving some money for his retirement. A good, faithful Catholic (despite murdering people in cold blood), he has become celibate confessing to his priest trying to bargain his murders by his chastity with God. His boss is "Middleman" (Kathleen Turner), who likes him and wants to the best for him. She decides to arrange a date for him and orders Eddie to meet Lois Newton (Regina King). After confusion, mishaps and misunderstandings, mainly due to Eddie's profession, they fall in love with each other. Frank (Jason Alexander) is a competing boss who wants Eddie to join his eliminator corp but when Eddie love for Lois causes him to leave the job forever, Taylor (Ed Asner) orders Middleman and Frank to go after Eddie and eliminate him.
