Burnzy's Last Call

1995 NR 1h 25m 5.4

A day in the life of a New York City dive bar and the denizens that inhabit it. Set in the waning days of the Eighties, an era marked by excess and self-invention, the film is like an R-rated version of the lighthearted series "Cheers".

A lively lot of city dwellers gather at a Manhattan gin mill to engage in vigorous banter and edgy antics. Sal serves drinks at the watering hole called Eppie's and today's patrons include: a brash group of businessmen, curious underage film students, a not-so-off duty cop, a bookie who keeps bets in his head, an addictive gambler, an intimidating drag queen, a drunk painter, Wall Street hustlers and more; all of whom whose personalities and backgrounds are just as sundry as their respective lines of work. However one of Sal's most loyal customers is an old barfly named Burnzy. From opening until closing, as people parade through this hive of humanity, we get further acquainted with the elder Burnzy while he reveals the real reason he's been sitting at the bar all day.
