The mother of one of the victims of the crash of Swissair flight 111 meets, in Nova Scotia, with one of the fishermen who assisted with the rescue mission.

Kate O'Rouke (Kate Nelligan) loses her daughter Emma when she is a passenger aboard Swissair Flight 111. Through her personal grief while in the small community where the plane crashed she meets with fisherman Everett Barkhouse (Hugh Thomas) who inadvertently found Emma's torn sweater while sifting through debris out on the water. Together they form an unlikely union and console one another during this horrific tragedy.
