Barn Wedding

2015 NR 1h 26m 6.3

When a young couple have to reschedule their picturesque summer wedding to the rural and remote dead of winter, they are forced to face how well they truly know each other and the people closest to them.

Torontonians Emma and Colin are planning to get married in August several months away. Their plans are expedited when Colin learns that his practicum in the oil patch in Fort McMurray is imminent, they wanting instead to get married in two weeks before Colin leaves for the year as Emma has decided to stay in Toronto. Their plans are otherwise unchanged in that they had booked as a venue a barn attached to a bed and breakfast just outside rural Tweed, the wedding despite the B and B generally being closed for the season and the owners away for the winter, the owners' son, Paul, who will open and close the B and B for them and help them clean up the barn for the ceremony and reception. Whoever can make the event of their invited guests will be great in these new plans, but their best man and maid of honor, Taylor and Jessie, the latter who just returned from an extended European vacation having left the day they got engaged, will travel to Tweed with them to help them set up. Also arriving early are Colin's two brothers, gay Luke and blowhard, homophobic Derrick, and Derrick's wife, Jacquie, none of who Colin sees often somewhat out of choice. The isolation and confinement at the B and B provides a setting for the group to explore their interrelationships, especially Colin and Emma, who may be rushing into something for which they are ill-prepared emotionally, and peripherally Jessie, Emma and Luke's roommate who will have to find another living situation once Colin returns from his practicum.
